Preparations continue
While negotiations are in progress with KiwiRail, and easement developments are underway, work continues in small stages where we can.
The latest work around the Chain Hills tunnel area (still on private land) has been to re-establish the drainage either side of the track, then add a compacted layer of gravel mix on top of a smoothed-over bed of the original rail formation. This will harden as it dries and provide a firm surface for wheels as well as feet.
